I do that at home in the evenings sometimes when I just want to be alone. I used to RACE to the phone every time it rang, but as I've gotten older, I've realized that most phone calls are actually NOT emergencies.

But instead of having to know I'm missing a call and feeling kinda guilty about it, I put the phone in the other room and just don't check it. (I don't have a landline anymore; just my mobile.)

I have always hated phones. I have a cell phone, but only because it is practically impossible to live without one here. I leave it at home the majority of the time.

I've never tried that. Not answering the phone, that is. I should.

I hardly ever answer the phone. I have distinctive rings programmed in for certain people, or will screen calls when I'm home by myself.

When the kids are home? They know better than to pick it up - instead, I'll hear the bellows from wherever I am in the house as they read off the caller ID display to see if I want to answer.

Either that or my son is diving for the phone if it's for him, heh...

Ignoring the phone can be quite empowering; my kids do it all the time, leaving me to race through the living room to grab it before the person hangs up. Should I ignore it however, i hear steady complaints about the ringing, that it isn't for them, and they must always get it.

I always suspected that's what you guys were doing. no wonder no one in IT ever answers my calls!

I don't answer my phone unless I know a call is coming in. I have voice mail and only use my cell phone when I'm in my van. I have learned that a phone ringing is not a command from on high to answer the thing!!

I let all my calls go to voice mail. I rule my life...not my phone!

I'll check the voice mail, if it's important, I'll either call back or reply straight to their voicemail! hehe
