So, where you from?

When someone asks you, "Where are you from?", what's your answer? Do you tell them where you were born, or where you grew up, or where you lived previously?

I never know how to answer that question. For some people it's easy because they've lived in the same state or even the same town for all their lives. For others, like me, it's a little more difficult, I think. I was born in Texas, but lived in 5 other states before moving to Mississippi. Before moving here, the longest I'd lived in one place was 9 years. Does that make me "from there"? Hell, I've been here 23 years, which is more than half my life...shouldn't that make me "from here"?

So...Where you from?

I'm from Connecticut. I wasn't born there, nor do I live there now. Specifically, I say I'm from a certain small town.

I only lived in that town for 7 years...so yeah, it does seem odd, considering that I've lived in Seattle for 5 years now, and I'll only usually mention that fact after people start assuming I live in CT now, too.

And where I was born doesn't ever come up unless someone says, "I'm from San Diego," at which point I'll mention I was born there.

Women are from Venus.

Sorry, again another year I did not make it to your race in Brandon. This time it was the neck injury.

Well, I'm guessing Eugene there is from Jupiter.

I am from Brooklyn, New York. Born and raised New Yorker. I lived throughout the tri-state but at heart I consider myself "from" Brooklyn.

I guess you pick the place you feel most defined you.
